The Writer's Way to Workout

August 15, 2017

So, I'm doing my daily at the Y on the treadmill. I love that they have built-in TVs attached to them and on the elliptical machines. I catch up on HGTV (Flip or Flop, House Hunters, Love it or List It) and Court TV shows. You know, the important stuff.

Anywho, I flipped to one channel that was showing The First 48, a show that features homicide detectives investigating murders. All real. No recreations. The camera follows them to the crime scenes, as they talk to witness, and suspects. These are actual working cops on real murder cases. I did my usual 30 minutes, but kept going.  I walked another 30 minutes just to see what happened.

I didn't keep going on the treadmill to push the limits and get in more burn. Oh no. I filed away details on how a real homicide case rolls out, ones that end in an arrest and those that don't.  How about one of the cops is named Bosch, but the real one is Fernando, Cuban and works for the Miami police department.

I just finished binge watching the  Amazon Prime original series Bosch starring Titus Willever as the fictional homicide detective Harry Bosch.  I've never read the bestselling books by Michael Connelly, btw. But I have enjoy the TV series.

Typical writer. Everything is research and goes into the compost bin of my mind. What looks like trash to non-writers is nutrient rich gold to us!
