First tiny buds have appeared! In Louisiana we don't get snow. The leaves don't turn orange, gold, and other fall colors. We don't even get cool, crisp weather consistently. So, we have other traditions that tell us it's the holidays. Like the first time it gets chilly and folks cook a pot a gumbo.
For the past six or seven years my tradition is when my Christmas Cactus shows tiny flower buds. It has bloomed every year since I got it as a gift from a kind stranger. This morning I started grinning when I saw the first clear sign of the pretty pink flowers are on the way.
Guess it's time to start organizing and planning my decorations. Wow, Thanksgiving is next week! Making a gift list time, too!
