I had read The Hunger Games series. I blew through those books at the same high velocity I'd consumed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo books. Then I stumbled upon Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower. Instantly became my favorite. Only just edging out Lisbeth Salander. Lauren Oya Olamina is a character that stayed with me a long, long time. Kindred, wow. Fledgling, a vampire tale that blew away ever other one I'd read. I could go on, but happy memories of being lost in her fiction is my way of celebrating the genius of an incredible writer. A trailblazer in the sci-fi and fantasy fiction world. She would be seventy-one today. Her life and novels were a gift keeps on giving to the world.
