Super Women

March is Women's History Month. I celebrate all the fab women who have helped make this world a better place. I love a good quote, and this is at the top of my list of favorites. Eleanor Roosevelt reminds us that even when words or actions hurt and are meant to humiliate us, we should push back. Never consent to be made to feel less than. It's not easy, especially when those messages seem to come at you daily. Counter that crap with positive self talk. Rebel!

She was rich, from the upper crust, and didn't have to do anything but enjoy being the First lady of the US. In 1939 famous opera singer Marian Anderson was turned away from performing at Constitution Hall in Washington DC by the Daughters of the American Revolution, who owned the hall. There was a clause in all performing contracts that prohibited Black performers. First Lady Roosevelt was outraged. She resigned her membership in the DAR and used her clout to arrange for Ms. Anderson to perform on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. Roll up and use your privilege when it counts!
